Fidaddle

Fidaddle

Who: Oli Wilson Dickson (Violin) and Luke Goss (Accordion)

Where: Primary Schools throughout Ryedale

When: June & July 2009

Folk duo Fidaddle provided ten of Ryedale's primary schools with the opportunity to accompany them on a musical journey, experiencing sounds from around the globe. Pupils were introduced to folk music from across the UK, Eastern Europe and beyond through a series of participatory performances which included children joining in with percussion, song and dance as well as having plenty of opportunities to ask questions. These performances not only inspired and enthused children, but teachers as well!

Luke Goss is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and animature.Luke's music includes commissions for symphony orchestras, rock bands, musicals, theatres and dance ensembles. He has arranged music for choirs, songwriters, bands and theatres.

Luke works as a soloist, but also as a collaborator with other composers, writers, dancers and artists including the poet and broadcaster, Ian McMillan.

Oli Wilson Dickson plays at the cutting edge of folk and world music with the Tea Hodzic Trio, Mabon, The Ian McMillan Orchestra and The Singing Bones. He also works with other artists including the storyteller Daniel Morden, with whom he performs in the UK and abroad.

Oli has also worked extensively as a performer and workshop leader for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Television and radio, Warner International, EMI and many local authority education and music services. For 5 years he worked as part of Live Music Now delivering workshops in special schools, day centres and venues for older people throughout the UK.

Feedback

All the pupils really enjoyed the session. They found it very entertaining, but also educational, especially as they learned about genres of music. The story-telling aspect fitted well with our literacy topic, as pupils have been trying to write and tell their own stories. The musicians were very good at answering questions and impressed everyone with their amazing talents. 10/10 from all the pupils!
