Pied Piper welcomes back internationally acclaimed singer songwriter, and Shed regular, Gwyneth Herbert to deliver a weekend of workshops for aspiring young singer songwriters.

Young people will have a rare opportunity to learn and develop songwriting and composition skills with one of the best in the business. Gwyneth, and multi-instrumentalist/composer Dave Price, will teach the basics of lyric writing, song construction, composition and performance skills. On the second day of workshops participants will be able to record their new material with a professional sound engineer and create a CD.

Gwyneth's 2007 workshops were a great success, boosting participants' confidence and helping them put their ideas into practice. One said: It has been a great experience, I really enjoyed it and have learnt a lot about songwriting and instrumentation; and another: I enjoyed putting my words to music and realising I could sing/create melodies - I already know I could do words but had no faith in my ability at the rest.

Gwyneth Herbert is a regular broadcaster on the BBC performing an eclectic mix of musical styles and genres, including jazz, blues and most recently the songs of Jane Austen! She performs throughout the UK and Europe in venues as diverse as Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall and Ronnie Scott's in London and is increasingly in demand as a composer.

Gwyneth's fourth album, All the Ghosts, was released in the UK in 2009, and has just been put out in America. Tracks from this album are included on Gwyneth's My Space site www.myspace.com/gwynethherbert

As part of her promotional tour in America during June this year, Gwyneth gave her New York debut and both her live performances and her album are receiving rave reviews: At turns whimsical, sentimental, dispassionately observational and practically oozing with emotion, Ghost's ten tracks are completely and unabashedly original utilizing a wide-ranging array of instrumentation, mood and atmosphere - Direct Current Music, USA.

These workshops are delivered with support from Arts Council England and Ryedale District Council
