Musicians
Pied Piper works exclusively with freelance professional musicians, who combine performing excellence with a talent to enthuse and abilitiy to deliver high quality, engaging workshops and eduation programmes for young people.
Artists are selected by Pied PIper's Directors, based on their knowledge and experience of the artist's work and their suitability to work wtih the intended participants for a specific project.
Pied PIper has a very close relationship with The Shed which was established as an unique performance venue in Ryedale by SImon Thackray in 1992. The Shed is renowned for presenting world-class music and poetery and for creating and staging the unique art events taht are the 'essence of Shedness'. These events include The Yorkshire Pudding Boat Race®, Mrs Boyes' Bingo, Lol Coxhill in a skip, and, a new duet for 2010, Alan Tomlinson and the River Seven.
Many of the musicians who perform as part of The Shed's programme are involved in activities for Pied Piper. Increasingly young people who have taken part in a Pied Piper workshop are then able to access free tickets to see their workshop leader perform at The Shed. This opportunity is greatly appreciated by the young people, and many report that they felt more confident as musicians after the workshops, but following The Shed gig they were really inspired to continue and develop their music making skills.
