Rock School
Pied Piper first delivered this project during February 2007. Leicester based band Delta Sly became artists in residence at Brooklyn Youth Centre, Norton for 5 days and worked with almost 40 young people who were already in bands or who wanted to form one. The week culminated in a gig at Pickering Memorial Hall where more than 150 young people were in the audience, providing our participants with an authentic rock'n'roll experience.
The aim of this project is to engage young people aged from 13 - 18 in a half term activity which will develop their band skills or introduce them to other like-minded young people with whom they can form a new band and develop their talent.
Participants are supported by a 5 piece band of professional gigging musicians, ensuring that there is plenty of opportunity and support within workshops to focus on specific instrumental techniques, develop original material, explore how to develop cover versions of existing songs, band skills - including promotion and ensemble playing, record their original material, have a professionally produced album at the end of the project and give a final performance supported by professional sound and lighting engineers.
Pied Piper delivers this project in partnership with NYMAZ and Ryedale 4Youth, who provide invaluable support by recruiting young musicians and providing staff to manage the workshops and performance.
The most recent Rock School took place during February 2011, for further information about this project please follow this link. Rock School 2011
