Ryedale School Big Band

6pac at Ryedale School

I thought that it was brilliant. The guys were really nice and helpful, but they also used really good rehearsal discipline so we learnt stuff. They also made us concentrate on the little parts of music which enabled us to play jazz rather than a series of notes.

During the summer term of 2007, Manchester based jazz ensemble 6pac, were ensemble in residence at Ryedale School, nr. Helmsley. They spent 10 weeks working with the school's Big Band to develop their ensemble skills, explore new repertoire, provide masterclasses and sectional support for participants, and to provide the band's regular music leader with support and help to improve his own practice as a musician.

This project was extremely successful, culminating in final performance as part of the school's summer concert, and the response from the pupils and school staff to the musicians was fantastic.

This project was delivered with funding from NYMAZ and Ryedale School.
