Songwriting

Ryedale has some extremely talented young singer songwriters, and Pied Piper is delighted to be able to provide them with masterclasses with some of the UK's leading singer songwriters.

Pied Piper's songwriting workshops can be accessed by young people who don't play an instrument or read music, as working on the lyrics or vocal technique is just as important as writing the music, and by brining a group of young people with different skills together new partnerships and musical relationships are established which can last beyond the duration of the workshops.

The aims of our workshops are to provide young singer songwriters with the basic tools they require to practice and develop their craft. This includes approaches to lyric writing, song construction, composition and performance skills, increasingly we are also trying to provide all participants with a professional recording of their new material at the end of each project.

Pied Piper works closely with many of the singer songwriters who perform at The Shed, most recently workshops have been led by Internationally acclaimed artists Gwyneth Herbert (above) and Boo Hewerdine.
